Az Goshala & Akshaya Patra Youth chapter of Phoenix teamed up to host a fund raiser badminton tournament at Arizona Badminton Center on June 25th.  About 40 men, women and children participated in singles and doubles categories. Players from many countries joined the tournament to support Goshala and Akshaya Patra.

This year’s tournament saw participation from many top ranked state players.  At the same time there were many beginners and first timers that came to support a great cause and have fun. Participants enjoyed a few refreshing games of badminton and delicious food cooked and served graciously by Goshala and Akshaya Patra volunteers.

The recreational first rounds led into highly competitive final rounds. The longest match of the tournament was the Men’s Doubles quarterfinals between Ram & Dean vs. Sash & Tejas.  Sash & Tejas, both seasoned Arizona players were the favorites to win this contest.  However, the defending singles champion, Ram partnering with Dean has pulled the biggest upset of the tournament with an extended score of 20-22, 23-21, 28-26.  Karan Kumar won both Men’s Singles and Doubles titles, while Priya Nair won both Women’s Singles and Doubles events. Participants donated generously for the great cause of cow protection and food for education for needy kids.

Goshala Team is hosting a Food for Life program in July where it feeds the needy, vegetarian food at the Watkins homeless shelter.
